The Glass Wall
When twelve-year-old Drake Valiente discovers that he can hop into the worlds of fictional universes, he sets out to become a hero at the first chance he gets. But there are some who would use his benevolent aspirations for their own ends.
The Glass Wall is what happens when someone who really likes deconstruction accidentally writes a middle grade novel. (I say “accidentally” because after writing the first draft, I did some research and discovered that my novel’s contents and themes would be marketed towards a middle grade audience.)
Technically, I’ve had the basic premise in my head for over a decade. I tried to get it to go away, but it kept annoying me, so I eventually gave up and wrote the book.
I’d finished projects before, but never thoroughly edited them. Needless to say, I was not prepared. This story has gone through two full rewrites because the main cast went through “minor” changes that I told myself would result in some edits, but wound up completely altering the plot. I also shed many a tear cutting out characters I loved (I will use Ghet in something one day) and chapters that I enjoyed writing (goodbye cyberpunk chapter, and the chapter that was totally not inspired by the game Subnautica). But hey, I finished writing it. And hopefully one day, there will be people who finish reading it.
